Snodgrass leave's Central High School

Displaying IMG_2846.JPGCentral High School, the best school ever, will have to say goodbye to their principal this year.Central High School is the oldest school in Springfield, and it was the first one built. The school is also very academically advanced from the IB program and the Middlers Program. Many excellent staff are leaving this year from Mrs. Smith and Dr. Snodgrass. Dr. Snodgrass will be leaving at the end of the school year, due to a job that he has excepted at the Greenwood Laboratory School.Snodgrass will also see his son graduate before he leaves. Not only has he picked most of the staff at Central, many students are going to miss him leaving this year. Many students like Alli say, “Snodgrass is truly an amazing principal and i am sad to see him go. He ran a fantastic school, and Central wont be the same without him.  Also, Central hopes to see a good replacement for the next school year. Students overall enjoyed his running time at Central. Many people were close to the Snodgrass family like Carolyn. “I have known the Snodgrass family for a long time, and I am very sad they will not be here for the rest of my high school years. I wish him the best for his new job”, Carolyn said. Though its going to be hard to find a good replacement for Dr.Snodgrass, we wish him the best for his new job at Greenwood Laboratory.

Science Fair Story

Displaying IMG_2577.JPGDisplaying IMG_2576.JPGScience fair was this last few weeks, around April fourteenth . Many students at CHS participated in this year’s science fair. Freshmen and Middlers are the main participates in the science fair. Students either see science fair as a waste of their time or something to occupy their free time they have. Students made their display boards and did tons of research like finding Standard Deviation, Independent Variables, Dependent Variable, conducting T-Test, and Graphing. Students like Kayla say that “ It is gross, is a waste of my time, and I know it will still be in the future.” This goes  to show that 2 hours of our time is wasted, and those two hours students will never get back due to the science fair. Also many students like Lauren say” They wish science fair was optional instead of being a requirement and being so much of our  grade.” many teachers like seeing the outcomes of the science fair projects, but in the end many students regret doing science fair because it is a waste of time.

What is HOSA?

Participants in HOSA bowl
Dustin and partner in scrubs for HOSA event
What is HOSA? HOSA stands for Health Occupations Students of America. This club helps support many diseases and organizations. HOSA has been one of the fastest growing clubs since last year.  This past year HOSA has doubled in size, and has participated in more fundraising opportunities like the ALS walk, awareness of diabetes and mental illnesses, and raising money for HOSA state. HOSA state is where HOSA candidates take part in a specific event and compete for nationals, nationals this year are being held in Anaheim, California. We asked HOSA'S president, Karlye Price, what HOSA does  and she said, "Currently HOSA doesn't really do like instant stuff for the community, but the community of doctors is growing. People in this group are becoming something great and HOSA allows for the exploration of careers." This shows that HOSA has a big influence for future health professions. I also asked Karlye what Hosa event she participated in. She said, " I decided to participate in Medical Photography this year because I love photography and wanted to explore different health professions." I also asked Zoe, a first year member of HOSA, what she participated in and she said," I participated in a team event in which my partner and I performed CPR and First Aid. This shows how diverse HOSA as a new club really is. HOSA members also participated in their competitive events. Overall Central High School placed 14 people for nationals in Anaheim, California. HOSA has been a great success considering it is a new club. The Member of HOSA all enjoyed their time at the HOSA State Conference. Karlye said, " the most memorable part of HOSA was when I was sitting next to Deckard and she was so excited so many of us had made it and she said 'We beat all the other Springfield high schools' and she smiled devilishly." This shows HOSA's success and how popular the club has become.

Kylie Jenner Challenge Meets CHS

Oliva's picture after the challenge
Wanting your lips bigger than normal? Or just to see what your lips would look like taking up half of your face? Well there is a challenge that has broke the internet quite recently, the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge! The challenge consists of people  sticking their lips in a small container, sucking out the air, and leaving your lips in the container for several minutes. The final result is that you have gigantic swollen lips, similar to Kylie Jenner.  Instead of gaining gigantic, plush lips like Kylie, many people have had bruised, bleeding, swollen, and odd shaped lips. CHS has seen this Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge has been quite the fad this last week. Many students have tried the challenge and go to school with fat lips. Olivia says, “I decided to do the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge because everyone else was doing it and that sounds really great,  and I thought it was really funny and see people's reactions. Another Reason why I did the challenge is because I think Kylie Jenner is very hilarious and I think I am hilarious.” Many students at CHS see Kylie Jenner as a role model or an idol due to this challenge becoming popular, and to

Kylie’s natural beauty. Many students at Central High School also think the challenge is stupid.  Another CHS student named Lindsey said, “ I would never do the Challenge because its stupid. I did a parody of the Kylie Jenner challenge, which I think is stupid and can harm people, so what I did is to use make to show that a shot glass imploded on my face.” Lindsey's also posted photos on the challenge to show how harmful it can be. Somepeople do not agree with is challenge and there have been tweets on twitter demonstrating how bad the challege is.Many cases, doing the Kylie Jenner challenge actually have had people sent to the ER due to shot glasses exploding in their face. Linsey also says,” That mainly girls do the challenge because they look up to her and that her lips have become fuller, and so they look up to her, and they want to be like her.” So in the end the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge is very dangerous and people do it for their own enjoyment or in order to have plump lips like Kylie.
