CHS Student Freedom of Expression Forum

Displaying IMG_2610.JPGCentral High School had a Student Freedom of Expression Forum. The forum was held at CHS on April 14th. During the forum many schools came like Parkview, Glendale, Kickapoo, and many other Springfield Public Schools. The event had two legends of  freedom of expression Mary Beth Tinker and Cathy Kuhlmeier Frey, The two speakers taught freedom of expression to all of Journalism and Media students that attended the student forum. The two individuals told us about their cases, Tinker vs. Des Moines--landmark Supreme Court case; " Students do not loose their rights at the schoolhouse gates" and the Hazelwoood East vs. Kuhlmeier --Supreme Court case resulting in prior review of the publications. Not only did the individuals tell us about their case, they told us our rights as student journalists and they also many peoples'  opinions said the forum opened their eyes. A student from CHS said,"This Forum was not a waste of my time and it also gave me new information as a student journalists."The Forum was also very informational. The guest speakers also told us about the first amendment and  told us the population who actually knew these rights. Another Student fro CHS said,"The most memorable part of the Forum was when we talked about the amendments and we received t-shirts. It was also cool to see how many things I knew from the first amendment. Overall the student forum was a success and was an eye-opening experience for many student journalists.

Snodgrass leave's Central High School

Displaying IMG_2846.JPGCentral High School, the best school ever, will have to say goodbye to their principal this year.Central High School is the oldest school in Springfield, and it was the first one built. The school is also very academically advanced from the IB program and the Middlers Program. Many excellent staff are leaving this year from Mrs. Smith and Dr. Snodgrass. Dr. Snodgrass will be leaving at the end of the school year, due to a job that he has excepted at the Greenwood Laboratory School.Snodgrass will also see his son graduate before he leaves. Not only has he picked most of the staff at Central, many students are going to miss him leaving this year. Many students like Alli say, “Snodgrass is truly an amazing principal and i am sad to see him go. He ran a fantastic school, and Central wont be the same without him.  Also, Central hopes to see a good replacement for the next school year. Students overall enjoyed his running time at Central. Many people were close to the Snodgrass family like Carolyn. “I have known the Snodgrass family for a long time, and I am very sad they will not be here for the rest of my high school years. I wish him the best for his new job”, Carolyn said. Though its going to be hard to find a good replacement for Dr.Snodgrass, we wish him the best for his new job at Greenwood Laboratory.
